In the official Demon Slayer Wiki, Tanjiro is considered the Strongest Demon while in Demon form, and he's got all the talent and abilities to compare him to the top Hashira, so basically he's legit the top slayer or would have been if they did not disband the Pillars/ Hashira positions.

Sumi has pale skin and a set of black, button-like eyes. She wears her hair in two low pigtails fastened with blue butterfly clips. She sports a long-sleeved nurse uniform tied with a blue ribbon around her waist and wears white socks and shoes.
Like the other members of the trio, she is very bright, cheery, and helpful. She is portrayed as more polite and mature than what is usually expected for girls her age.
Sumi was pivotal in helping Inosuke, Tanjiro, and Zenitsu get back in good condition after their battle in Mount Natagumo. During their Rehabilitation Training, Tanjiro was confused at their comparison in progress compared to his collogues, such as Kanao Tsuyuri. Sumi, Kiyo, and Naho were able to direct his efforts in using Total Concentration Constant.
Sumi is seen assisting the trio as they undergo rehabilitation after the battle with Enmu. Some time later, when Tengen Uzui arrives at the Butterfly Mansion to take Aoi and Naho on his mission to Yoshiwara, Sumi, Kiyo, and Kanaoattempt to stop him (though they do little more than bother him). Tanjiro arrives to prevent him from taking the girls and assess the situation, offering himself, Inosuke, and Zenitsu to replace Aoi and Kiyo for Uzui's mission.
Following his battleagainst Upper Rank Six, Tanjiro fell into a coma while recovering from his wounds. When he eventually regained consciousness, Sumi, along with everyone else at the mansion, was relieved to see him awake. When he asked for Inosuke's condition, Sumi told him that his condition was also severe due to the poison in him, leading to her surprise when Inosuke is in actuality hanging in the ceiling panels above Tanjiro's bed.
Though she has never displayed or, in the case of Aoi, alluded to any special abilities, she, along with Kiyo and Naho, was the one who taught Total Concentration: Constant(全(ぜん) 集(しゅう) 中(ちゅう) ・常(じょう) 中(ちゅう) , Zen Shūchū Jōchū?) to Tanjiro. This shows that they do possess valuable information about Breathing Stylesand related training.
Sumi's chosen name contains the characters for "middle"(中, naka?) and "meadow"(原, hara?).She shares the same name as Sumi Shinazugawa, Genya Shinazugawa and Sanemi Shinazugawa's younger sister.(To Genya Shinazugawa) "As long as you’re still alive, there’s always a chance that the two of you can start over.
