Michael Shepherd, the founding editor of this journal, died suddenly in late August, bringing an end to an era in British psychiatry. He was a man of massive erudition and a sharp, sardonic wit. He established epidemiological psychiatry and trained numerous workers in this country and abroad.

SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR. Biography. After completing a PhD in Cellular, Molecular and Developmental Biology at Indiana University (IU), Bloomington, and then a successful Walter Winchell-Damon Runyon postdoctoral fellowship, also in the Biology Department at IU, Shepard joined Genentech in 1980.
