In the late 1890’s Hans Merensky, having a sixth sense for hidden mineral resources, seeks his fortune in the South African gold mining business, and falls in love with the beautiful but impoverished young noblewoman Rosa von Zülow. But for financial reasons, Rosa decides to marry the much older, but powerful and wealthy geologist van Tonderen.
An opulent two-part TV drama based on the life of the geologist, Hans Merenksy. Born and raised in South Africa, Hans (Tim Bergmann) moves to Berlin in the 1910s when his father dies. After university, he returns to Africa, to find it overrun by Europeans competing in the race for diamonds and gold.
