It is based on the 2007 book The Long Road Home: A Story of War and Family by Martha Raddatz , which tells the story of a U.S. Army unit during the first day of the siege of Sadr City ( Arabic : مدينة الصدر , romanized : Madīna 'ṣ-Ṣadr ) in 2004.
