The Forest of Bowland, also known as the Bowland Fells and formerly the Chase of Bowland, is an area of gritstone fells, deep valleys and peat moorland, mostly in north-east Lancashire, England, with a small part in North Yorkshire (however roughly half of the area falls into the area of the historic West Riding of Yorkshire).

  3. Forest of Bowland is a scenic region in Lancashire with historic castles, churches, pubs and walks. Discover its attractions, from Hornby Castle and Chipping Steam Fair to Beacon Fell and Trough of Bowland.

    • Whalley Abbey. Although technically located just outside of the Forest of Bowland in the historic village of Whalley, the ruins of Whalley Abbey are often included in a Forest of Bowland itinerary.
    • Sawley Abbey. Although not as impressive as Whalley Abbey, Sawley Abbey is another monastic building worth visiting. Located in the town of Sawley, the ruins of Sawley Abbey date back to the 12th century.
