Feb 9, 2011 · Police in Lancashire say they have identified Christopher Smith as the killer of Joan Harrison, who was found dead in a garage in 1975. Smith died in 2008, but left a note admitting the crime and had a DNA match at the scene.

Joan Mary Harrison was an English film producer and screenwriter. Born in Guildford, Surrey, Harrison studied at St Hugh's College, Oxford, and also at the Sorbonne. In 1933 she responded to a newspaper advertisement placed by director Alfred Hitchcock who was seeking a "young lady, highest educational qualifications, must be able to speak, read and write French and German fluently".
Joan Harrison was a secretary, scriptwriter, producer and assistant to Alfred Hitchcock. She worked on films such as Rebecca, Suspicion and The Birds, and the TV series Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
