On 30 June 1798 the painter Joseph Farington wrote in his diary: ‘In 1702 father of the present Mr Penn was born, did not marry till he was 48 years of age, when he married Lady Juliana Fermor. Thus Mr Penn, is grandson to William Penn, a remarkable circumstance; only 3 generations in 158 years."
