Sadly, they lost group member Marcus Hutson to cancer in 2000. After leaving Capitol, the group recorded a solid, but underappreciated 1997 album of Babyface covers, Songbook Vol. 1: The Songs of Babyface, for Interscope Records.

The group were formed, originally, by Nicholas Caldwell and the late Marcus Hutson as the Eden Singers in 1963. The group became the Whispers after the Scott twins and Gordy Harmon had been recruited to the ranks. The Whispers signed to the Dore label in 1964 and released 'I Was Born When You Kissed Me.'
