Overview. April 1945. Because he stole two bars of chocolate, the soldier Rudi is sentenced to death by the court-martial judge Dr. Schramm. Rudi manages to escape from the firing squad at the last minute, and since the end of the war has been making a meager living as a street peddler.
1959: Kleinschmidt is a traveling salesman. On the road, he steps out in Kassel to see an old girlfriend, Lissy (Ingrid van Bergen). Things go rough, but he muddles through selling his wares, until by chance he meets Schramm again (who is now Ober-Prosecutor). His salesman license is confiscated.
Martin Held and Walter Giller star in a 94 minute dramedy directed by Wolfgang Staudte, about a prosecutor and a street seller with history from back in the second world war, run into each other again years later.
