Jul 1, 2016 · The screenplay had a one-word title, Greystoke, but everyone knew that this was the story of Tarzan, lord of the apes, adapted from the 1914 novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
A shipping disaster in the 19th Century has stranded a man and woman in the wilds of Africa. The lady is pregnant, and gives birth to a son in their tree house. Soon after, a family of apes stumble across the house and in the ensuing panic, both parents are killed.
Almost two decades later, the Belgian explorer, Captain Phillippe D'Arnot, member of a zoological expedition funded by the British Museum, crosses paths with a now-grown-up John, the smart lord of the apes, and before long, a profound bond develops between the two men.
