Joseph Biroc (1903-1996) was born in New York. After becoming enamored with motion pictures as a child when he saw his first film projected onto a large sheet, Biroc never considered any career but film. While still in high school, with help from his uncle, he landed a job as a film lab technician with Paragon Labs in Fort Lee, New Jersey in 1918.
