Francis Anthony Stapleton (born 10 July 1956) is an Irish former professional football player and manager. He is best remembered for his time at Arsenal, Manchester United and as a pivotal player for the Republic of Ireland national team. He has also been manager at Bradford City and MLS club New England Revolution .
The Republic of Ireland striker won the FA Cup with United in 1983 and 1985 while Arsenal were in the doldrums. But Stapleton enjoyed plenty of good times in the eight years he spent at Highbury before his transfer to Old Trafford in August 1981.
Frank Stapleton. He was bought to succeed Joe Jordan. He became a Fans' Favourite and helped the club to win two FA Cups in 1983 and 1985. He scored against Brighton and became the first player to score for different clubs in Wembley Finals.
Frank Stapleton joined Manchester United in the summer of 1981 for a fee of £900, 000 from Arsenal. He was Ron Atkinson's first major signing and made his debut in the opening fixture of the 1981/82 season, a 2-1 defeat to Coventry City at Highfield Road.
