Daniel Edward Aykroyd CM OOnt ( / ˈækrɔɪd / AK-royd; born July 1, 1952) is a Canadian and American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and producer. Aykroyd was a writer and an original member of the "Not Ready for Prime Time Players" cast on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live from its inception in 1975 until his departure in 1979.

Between 1975 and 1979, Aykroyd was one of the major stars of SNL and became a household name in America. Not only did he write and act out his own characters, such as Bedlar Conehead and Elwood Blues, but he also did wildly over-the-top impersonations of anyone from Richard Nixon to Julia Child.
