Nichelle Nichols (/ n ɪ ˈ ʃ ɛ l / nish-EL; born Grace Dell Nichols; December 28, 1932 – July 30, 2022) was an American actress, singer and dancer whose portrayal of Uhura in Star Trek and its film sequels was groundbreaking for African American actresses on American television.
Nichelle Nichols was a singer, dancer and actress who played Lt. Nyota Uhura in Star Trek (1966) and its films. She also appeared in other TV shows and movies, and received awards and honors for her work and activism.
