Apr 12, 2024 · The IndieProd Company entered television production in 1987. In 1989, Carolco Pictures Inc. acquired IndieProd and closed its television arm in 1990. The theatrical arm continued in production until 1999.
Carolco Pictures, Inc. was an American independent film studio that existed from 1976 to 1995, founded by Mario Kassar and Andrew G. Vajna. [1] Kassar and Vajna ran Carolco together until 1989, when Vajna left to form Cinergi Pictures.
In 1992, Carolco sold off IndieProd, becoming an independent production company once again, and received a four-year $350 million distribution pact with TriStar Pictures and Japan Satellite Broadcasting in order to invest money into their own films.

In 1976, Melnick left MGM and created his independent production company, Indieprod, with an agreement through Columbia. Indieprod produced films from the late 1970s into the 1990s through contracted deals with the likes of Fox, Carolco, Tri-Star Pictures, and others.
