After his studies of music in Riverside, California, he wrote his first film score for Niki List‘s Sternberg-Shooting Star, followed by soundtracks for Robert Dornhelm‘s movie Requiem for Dominique, The Comedian Harmonists and Gabriel Barylli‘s Butterbrot.
Emmerich said the project had previously been bought by Universal Pictures, and once he got the rights back, Emmerich and partner Harald Kloser went to the Cannes Film Festival to get financial backers, with the independent nature helping Emmerich get creative control and a 50% share of the film.
