1 day ago · Mother Night is a novel by American author Kurt Vonnegut, first published in 1961. The title of the book is taken from Goethe's Faust. It is the fictional memoirs of Howard W. Campbell Jr., an American, who moved to Germany in 1923 at age 11, approx. five years after World War I ended, and then later became alternately a well-known playwright and Nazi propagandist.
I recommend starting with Slaughterhouse-Five; it's short, fairly typical of Vonnegut, and generally considered one of his best, so it should give you a good sense of his work right away. The only one I would strongly caution you against starting with is Breakfast of Champions, which ties into a lot of his other books and is best read after them.
