The movie does a good job of selling us on the idea that these two people could have a connection, but the movie also drives home the duality of fantasy and reality, and during the ending we are expected to buy that Seiji is proposing the idea of marriage at such an early stage (in their relationship)?

I would argue that the only movie that isn't recognized between the two is Ocean Waves as Even if you search very hard you might find 1 or 2 bad comments on Whisper of the Heart but you can easily find many bad comments on Ocean waves. I also agree that Ocean waves should be recognized more as tis is such a good movie!
