The aircraft landed in pairs, the first always piloted by a Czech pilot, the second by a Swedish one. Lt. Col. Michael Borůvka was the first Czech pilot to land on the Čáslav runway, followed by Lt. Col. Petr Mikulenka and Captain Jiří Pospíšil. On August 17 and 18, 2005, another six JAS-39C Gripen aircrafts landed at the Čáslav base.
The 21st Tactical Air Base Čáslav has a unique role in the defence of the airspace of the Czech Republic and we are currently able to fulfil this task as we are assigned. Of course, this requires some infrastructure, which corresponds to the fact that today we operate with the fourth-generation JAS-39 Gripen and L-159 aircraft.
