Eligibility. Championship events are open only to British Isles Citizens, British Overseas Territories Citizens or players resident therein for the past year, or those with British Overseas Dependent Territories Citizenship. In Junior Championships, ages relate to 1st January 2021 e.g. an Under 10 will be born in 2011 or later.
This year’s Championships are being supported by Hull and East Riding Chess Association, Hull City Council, Hull Culture and Leisure, and Visit Hull and East Yorkshire. The ECF wishes to thank all of the above for their generous support for the 2024 British Championships, and looks forward to running the next in the historic series of British Championships, which started in 1904.

Aug 31, 2021 · Scuppered by Covid last year, this October will see the Championships take place once again over the board. Hull will host the Open and Women’s Championships, whilst Milton Keynes will host the Senior and Junior Championships. Schedule. Mar 7, 2024 · The 2024 British Chess Championship will be held in Hull with the first competitions starting in the evening of Thursday 25 th July 2024 with the final games being played on Sunday 4 th August 2024. There are many competitions held as part of the British Championship festival as there are rating-limited, Rapidplay and Blitz events as well as the British, Senior and Junior Championships.

Supporting this great event is The John Robinson Youth Chess Trust. The Trust (an independent registered charity) was founded in 2006 to support junior chess in England. The Trust has generously supported the British since 2006 and in 2023 awarded the English Chess Federation £10,000 to facilitate the promotion and organising of the event and to provide junior coaching during the championship.
