Roads are closed to allow participants to gather on the road behind the start line, near Claremont Bridge. This year’s assembly zone will be on the Town Moor, near Exhibition Park, and runners will make their way down onto the road from there.

Following the iconic city to coast route, the Great North Run starts in Newcastle city centre, before heading over the Tyne Bridge just before the two-mile mark. Runners then pass the Gateshead International Stadium, before continuing on towards the coast, making a final turn at the 12-mile point and running along the beautiful seafront of South Shields.
