Students of other Cambridge colleges who are applying to start a postgraduate course in October 2024 and are interested in nominating St John's as a preference college, are asked to contact the College's Postgraduate Office (graduate-office@joh.cam.ac.uk) for information and advice before adding preference colleges to their University application form.
St John’s admits about eleven undergraduates each year. All supervisions in micro and macro are done by Fellows of the College, usually in small groups of about three but also in larger classes or seminars, depending on the subject.

Subjects at St John's One of the most distinctive characteristics of Cambridge courses is that they cover their subjects very broadly in the initial years and then become more specialised and offer a wide range of options in the later years.
In total, there are more than 30 Computer Scientists at St. John's College, including undergraduates, postgraduates, post-doctoral researchers and teaching staff. This strong community and the broad range of expertise it represents makes St John's an ideal place to study Computer Science.
Aside from the above, the College also runs an all-female close harmony singing group called Aquila and the St John's College Jazz Band which is a 20-piece big band playing a range of classic, original, and modern jazz tunes. Both have been going for five years strong, performing at May Balls, College functions, as well as hosting their own concerts.
St John’s is a large College, home to around 600 undergraduates and 320 postgraduates. The College features many listed buildings, as well as several modern buildings.
