It really depends on the book and author (as with all things 40k) but SM are usually the heroes of a book and absolutely murder everything. This is also true in books where they're not the heroes, like in Path of the Eldar, where a Phoenix Lord is laid low by a Dreadnought (sigh!) and a single Chapter with some IG and Navy support is able to almost destroy Craftworld Alaitoc (!).

So it might be that they peacefully parted ways, with the necrons going to sleep until until the time of the eldar had passed, and the eldar leaving the necrons alone. Which would fill the giant plot hole of if they were sworn foes, why didn't the eldar just hunt down the necrons one tomb world at a time.
