Coming Out makes shows the many sides of gay life in East Germany, both joyous and melancholic. Having previously seen Fassbinder's Fox and His Friends, it seems to me that "coming out" — where an individual comes to terms with their homosexuality and leaves a metaphorical closet — was largely foreign to German cinema on both sides of the Berlin Wall.

ANATOMY was the most financially successful of the post-SCREAM (1996) German slashers, leading to a 2003 sequel in its homeland. Although, arguably, it leans more into more of a conventional thriller than a slasher movie until its climactic scenes.
