   • 1. a global social movement that seeks to expose and prevent sexual harassment and assault, especially against women, by raising awareness and holding perpetrators to account publicly: "in the wake of #MeToo, more people are coming forward than ever"

   Word Origin late 19th century (as adjective): from me1 + too. In relation to the social movement the expression was apparently first used in 2006 on the social media platform Myspace by US activist Tarana Burke, and was popularized in 2017 by a tweet from the actor Alyssa Milano: ‘If you've been sexually harassed or assaulted write “me too” as a reply to this tweet’.
