Alan becomes temporary pilot of Thunderbird 1. In the Atlantic Ocean, the World Navy is testing nuclear torpedoes not far from the Seascape drilling platform. One of the torpedoes goes out of control and explodes on the seabed, igniting a gas field and sending up a two-hundred-foot-tall (61 m) fire jet.
Feb 23, 2017 · Thunderbird 1 is immediately airborne with Alan at the controls. This new cockpit set is very similar to the last one but the instruments on the walls are new as well as the entire chair. The radio microphone has been removed so Alan has to wear a headset.

In "Atlantic Inferno", Alan pilots Thunderbird 1, assuming his brother Scott's role of flying to the danger zone and co-ordinating the rescue operation. Alan comments on how different it is from operating Thunderbird 3, prompting Scott to remind him to "bring [Thunderbird 1] back in one piece".
Alan says six, so Scott tells him to get his gear into Thunderbird 1 and operate from the air. Meanwhile, Thunderbird 4 starts cutting through the cables. There is then an explosion above the damaged support strut, causing the rig to slip again.
Alan pilots a refurbished Thunderbird 1 - twice! - in this episode (his regular ride, Thunderbird 3, debuts its own new-look cockpit in future episodes). At Tracy Island, the Tracy Lounge has also been redecorated (including all five Tracy brothers' wall portraits).
