Albert Bethune was one of the first students at his mother's school, after it merged with the Cookman Institute in 1923. He later went to the Haines Institute in Augusta, Georgia. Albert then became the owner and operator of Bethune Funeral Home for 25 years.
Albertus Bethune was a prominent figure in the early 20th century, and is best remembered for his marriage to the renowned civil rights leader Mary McLeod Bethune. Born in June of 1870, Albertus was the son of a former enslaved couple who had been emancipated after the Civil War.
