Proceeding from Manchester by the London road, Ardwick Green is soon reached; the open space on the north side, transferred to the corporation in 1867, is called Ardwick Green Park; the area is about 5 acres.
The township went from a population of 242 (in just 47 houses) in 1773 to over 5000 residents in 1831. In 1838 Ardwick was incorporated into the new borough of Manchester and went on to grow to a population of 15,000 in 1851 and then over 40,000 by 1901.

Jul 17, 2017 · In 1847, just before the date of the older map, Bradford had become a Borough. In the mid-nineteenth century the skeleton of the modern city was in the process of erection. Bradford Infirmary had been built on its Westgate site in 1844. The building has been long demolished but Infirmary Field survives as a green space.
