Brentwood School's history begins in 1557 during Mary Tudor's reign. The school has grown over the centuries from a boys school to Co-Ed, from Senior to all-through.

Brentwood School offers a unique blend of the traditional with the modern. It is one of the few independent schools which teaches boys and girls separately from 11 to 16 in an otherwise mixed community.
The Brentwood School. Established in 1557 and formally granted in 1558 by Queen Mary I, the school was founded as The Grammar School of Antony Browne. Sir Antony Browne, the founder, obtained the license to establish the school, and the first appointed schoolmaster, George Otway, began his tenure in 1558.
