Radio X is a British national commercial radio station focused on alternative music, primarily indie rock, and owned by Global. The station launched in 1989 as a pirate radio station named Q102, before being renamed Xfm in 1992.
XFM was my kind of music as a teenager so it was coincidence rather than searching it out. 2005 - I then discovered XFM had loads of back catalogue clips on their website and listened to those. 2005 - Then I joined Pilkipedia, and found somebody has uploaded every episode ever, and became obsessed.
February 1998 is when Ricky and Steve first started on XFM. Then when Capitol took over they got the sack (well, took redundancy I expect). Went off, did The Office, then came back to XFM in 2001 where they got Karl.
XFM was aired for the first time on 15 March 2006 and was at the time owned by GCap Media. In September 2015 Radio X replaced XFM and it became part of the Global Radio group. "Love Machine" by Girls Aloud was the first song aired by the rebranded Radio X.

Xfm Series 1 ran from September 2001 to May 2002 and marked the return of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant to their former employers, Xfm following the Capital Group takeover in 1998. Karl Pilkington joined them as producer and steadily became more involved.
The show started in August 2001 on Xfm, [1] and aired in weekly periods for months at a time throughout 2002, 2003, 2004 and mid-2005. In November 2005, Guardian Unlimited offered the show as a podcast series of 12 shows.
