Its founding can be traced back to the Manchester Mechanics Institute, which was established in 1824 entirely through private initiative and funds to teach artisans the basic principles of science by part-time study, and the Manchester School of Design (f. 1838) latterly known as the Manchester School of Art.
Since we formed in 1824, we’ve grown to become the future-facing, modern, global institution that we are today. We’re creative, confident, passionate and proud – just like the city we call home – so our 200-year anniversary is a great chance for us all to come together and celebrate.
Here to make an impact on Manchester, our nation and beyond, with a driving ambition to discover and disseminate knowledge, and make higher education accessible and beneficial to all those with the passion and ability to succeed.
