  5. St Mary’s School opened with just 19 pupils under the Headship of Sister Veronica Lund (1885-91). The earliest buildings remain at the heart of the school, including the Chapel, which was consecrated in 1906, and the layout of the estate included the rhododendrons and azaleas which still greet visitors as they come up the drive.

  6. On 13 June 1967 the new school opened as a Voluntary Controlled Church of England Primary School to help serve the new Kingshill estate. The church owns the land that the school buildings stand on and provide 3 governors to sit on its board, including the vicar of St Mary’s.
