A natural successor to the Radio 1 Club, the Roadshow continued to give the opportunity for the station's DJ's to meet the audience. The first was at Newquay, Cornwall on Monday July 23rd 1973 at 5pm, hosted by Alan Freeman, using a caravan built and hired by brothers John & Tony Miles.
The typical roadshow summer season started in July and ran for eight weeks, broadcasting live on Radio 1 from the roadshow locations from 11 am to 12.30 pm each weekday. The first hour from 10 am was a warm-up ahead of the 11 am start of the live broadcast.
