Guardian have come a long way from August '89. Then in America's CCM magazine's Metal Messengers special, Guardian were put in the same Pop/Glam Metal pigeon hole as Stryper and Whitecross. When they found out there was a Spanish band also going by the name Fusion, they changed the band name to Gardian - intentionally misspelled to have 7 letters. In early 1986, Caro left the band and was replaced by guitarist Tony Palacios.
Guardian maintained the melodic hard rock slant on Miracle Mile from 1993 but not with the same continuity in that an acoustic presence started to imbue its sound, which carried over into the largely acoustic Swing, Swang, Swung released the following year.
The 1989 Enigma Records debut full length of Guardian, First Watch, needs little introduction as a classic melodic metal album worthy of a top five finish in our list of the Top 50 Christian Metal & Hard Rock Albums of the Eighties.
