Francis Crick Institute main building. The Francis Crick Institute (formerly the UK Centre for Medical Research and Innovation) is a biomedical research centre in London, which was established in 2010 and opened in 2016.
The Francis Crick Institute is an independent charity, established to be a UK flagship for discovery research in biomedicine.
In the summer of 2011, with a pioneering scientific vision in place and the foundations of a state-of-the-art building about to be laid, the project was named the Francis Crick Institute, acknowledging the scientific achievements of one of Britain's most notable scientists, Dr Francis Crick.
