I have not yet watched the departed because it is basically a western remake of infernal affairs. When I first watched IA I was impressed by how good both the plot and the acting from actors are (especially the last scenes of the 1st episode and the first scene of the second).
Departed makes moves in that direction but never quite gets there. Its less a class drama and more just a high concept thriller with some unusually good characterization. I also didn't care for Mark's role.

They're both good. The Departed is probably technically a better film, but I'd rather watch The Town. I'm a huge fan of Ben Affleck, and Jeremy Renner is fantastic. I wish he'd won the Oscar that year.
