Portadown (Port an Dúnáin in Gaelic) is a small town of 30,000 inhabitants, based in Northern Ireland. Authentic and full of charm, it nevertheless has a rather stormy history, deeply rooted in the Northern Irish conflict and the 30 years of Troubles (1969-1998) that shook Northern Ireland….
Portadown is an industrial town historically in County Armagh in Northern Ireland, but since 2015 part of the Armagh-Banbridge-Craigavon District. Its population in 2011 was about 22,000. Its eastern parts are called Craigavon for the new town that was only partially built there.
Portadown is known as "the hub of the North", due to it being a major railway junction in the past; where the Great Northern Railway's line diverged for Belfast, Dublin, Armagh and Londonderry. In the 1990s, Portadown was drawn to the attention of the world's media by the "Drumcree standoff".
