Avenue Bernard is the other main shopping street in Outremont. This street features lively restaurants and boutiques. The restaurants on this street tend to be chic, with fantastic food and sleek decor. Many of the restaurants tend to be a pit pricey but the food is generally quite good.
The neighborhood’s main attraction is the Mount Royal Cemetery that sits at the bottom of Mount Royal, along with a section of the Université de Montréal campus. The neighborhood has a very large French-speaking population along with a significant Hassidic Jewish population.
Locals call it “the Mountain,” and Mount Royal is both Montréal’s namesake and spiritual, natural heart. Hike past countless surprise lookouts en route to the city’s iconic illuminated cross and catch glimpses of Montréal from some of its best angles.
