Straw Dogs is a tough watch but it is still a “good” movie by most standards. An important entry in the “home invasion” and “man pushed to the breaking point” sub genre of films.
His critics at the time (and now, I suppose) criticized him for celebrating violence and misogyny but the truth is that his very best movies (Straw Dogs, The Wild Bunch) aren't made in celebration but with with Peckinpah's sad knowledge that people are beasts that walk upright and wear clothes.
