- Lethal Weapon. Any "Rush Hour" fan that somehow hasn't seen "Lethal Weapon" is doing themselves a great disservice. While not the first-ever mismatched buddy cop movie, it reinvented the genre and has served as the gold standard ever since.
- 21 Jump Street. From "Starsky & Hutch" to "CHiPs" and beyond, there's no shortage of movies that have tried to recapture the magic of cop shows from the '70s and '80s.
- Hot Fuzz. With "Shaun of the Dead," director Edgar Wright and his co-writer (and star) Simon Pegg showed their unparalleled aptitude at creating movies that can simultaneously satirize a genre but also be a genuinely great example of a film within that genre.
- Charlie's Angels (2000) "Rush Hour" fans shouldn't limit themselves to just buddy cop movies. There are other films with a similar blend of comedy and stylized action that should scratch that particular itch, such as the 2000 film adaptation of "Charlie's Angels."

When Rush Hour was first released, the buddy chemistry of Jackie Chan as Inspector Lee and Chris Tucker as Rush Hour's Detective James Carter felt fresh and unique and set anticipation high for their return in Rush Hour 2. That film flipped the fish-out-of-water concept of the first movie with its Hong Kong setting and brought in the franchise's mo...
The Shanghai movies had a similar buddy comedy conceit as the Rush Hour trilogy, but they also added more creativity and variety to give each a distinct novelty. This is something that Shanghai Dawn could easily build upon. Shanghai Noon's Old West setting was the perfect complement to the comedic banter between Chan and Owen Wilson, as well as Cha...
As for why Rush Hour 4 is proceeding ahead of Shanghai Dawn, it comes down to the commercial viability of the former. While both Shanghai movies were very well received, each was also a modest success at the box office. Compared to the Rush Hour movies, the Shanghai movies built their reputation gradually as they grew into cult classics. Despite th...
With Chan apparently prioritizing Rush Hour 4, the chances of Shanghai Dawn happening seem relatively low. With Jackie Chan's countless harrowing stunts having left him with a laundry list of injuries, that would be a factor for him to consider in whether he would want to do Shanghai Dawn. There are also the usual issues of scripting, budgeting, sc...

Feb 16, 2016 · Shanghai Noon, I just mainly felt lighthearted, while I genuinely did crack up on some scenes in Rush Hour. As far as the sequels go, from what I remember I didn't like Shanghai Knight. Didn't like Rush Hour 2 the first time I seen it in theaters, then liked it more the second and third times I seen it afterwards.
Shanghai Noon should be up there with being as good as Rush Hour 1 & 2 IMO. Shanghai Knights is enjoyable enough , but it's kinda lame and that British kid brings it down for me personally. Also idk why, but it has a more family movie-oriented tone to it (probably the score), despite it still being and having PG-13 level humor - it's a bit off ...
