Well, anything incoherent can be easily handwaved in this film: it was just a virtual reality, and its creator kid could make anything he wanted just happen. Just be thankful he was into fish rather than into dragons, or the climax would have been much more insane.

The next hour or so of movie reinforces that not-quite-right vibe in all sorts of ways. The camera settles into odd positions now and again, or it jerks suddenly in one direction or another.
