Roy Koopa is second largest of the Koopalings, who are Bowser's offspring in older games retained through re-releases, and Bowser's minions in newer games. Presumed to be the third oldest behind Morton Koopa Jr., Roy debuted alongside them in Super Mario Bros. 3.

    Physical description

Roy is a large Koopaling with hot pink shades, and his eyes are never shown behind them. He originally wore a pink shell, but in more recent appearances, he has a purple shell.

    Personality

Roy Koopa is an arrogant, but brutish, bully who shows little to no regard for anyone other than himself. He is shown to be quite strong, but also lazy and a patronizing hypocrite. Roy is physically the strongest of the Koopalings won from Morton, crushing foes beneath his bulk and deflecting attacks with his hard shell. Preferring to use brawn over brains in every situation. He seem to be laid-back, doesn't do work but just lay around. He is has a soft side towards his family.

    Powers and abilities

•Magic: Just like the rest of the Koopalings, Roy is skilled at using magic. He is able to cast purple magic blasts from his wand. Roy can fire magic faster than Morton. •Fire breath: Roy can breathe a small ball of orange flames, as seen in the Mario & Luigi games. •Artillery expertise: Roy is shown to use firearms effectively; in New Super Mario Bros. U and its Switch port, Roy exclusively uses a Bullet Bill cannon during his boss fight. •Earthquake inducement: Being one of the strongest Koopalings (tied with Morton), Roy can cause earthquake-like tremors whenever he stomps on the ground, briefly stunning whoever is on the ground. •Paint manipulation: Only seen in Paper Mario: Color Splash, Roy is able to use paint during his boss fight against Mario. •Bill Blaster: Roy can fire Bullet Bills from his double-sided Bill Blaster in New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U.

    Super Mario Bros. 3

Roy is the fifth boss, and he is encountered on the airship in Sky Land. Roy is one of two Koopalings who can cause ground tremors upon landing onto the ground, the other being Ludwig von Koopa. Mario or Luigi can defeat Roy by stomping his head a few times, just as with the other Koopalings.

    Super Mario World

Roy is the fifth boss, being encountered at the end of Forest of Illusion. Just like Morton, Roy's battle involves him moving up the walls and ceiling of the room and trying to drop down onto Mario or Luigi. A difference is that the walls close in a bit whenever Roy's head is stomped. Mario or Luigi can defeat Roy by either stomping on him three times, just as in Super Mario Bros. 3, or by throwing two fireballs at Roy while in their Fire form and then stomp on him once.

    New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Unlike his past appearances, Roy appears in World 2. In his Tower battle, Roy will jump about and Ground Pound. If Mario or another playable character is on the ground when Roy comes down, they are briefly stunned and paralyzed by the shockwave. Roy's magic is purple in color. Like most other bosses, three stomps on the head will defeat him. In his castle, Kamek magically brings down pipes that Roy can use. Roy will jump into a random Warp Pipe and, when Mario is right below him, jump down from it and ground pound. Mario has to avoid both the earthquake and Roy falling from the pipes. After three stomps, Roy is defeated.

Roy is the seventh boss, and he is encountered at Float Castle I. He will fly down in a hot-air balloon machine. First, shoot off its arms and one cannon. Then it will reveal six more cannons which also must be shot. When the balloon's carriage goes down, Roy appears. By defeating him, Mario and Yoshi earn the ruby gem.

Like the other Koopalings, Roy is fought in a part of Bowser's Castle. He can breathe fire, create shockwaves, and spin in his shell. He has a Time Bob-omb during his battle, requiring Mario or Luigi to defeat him within eight turns.

Roy and the other Koopalings made their Mario Kart debut in Mario Kart 8 as playable characters. They also return in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

In the cartoons, he was Bully Koopa and, instead of Ludwig (Known as Kooky in the show) being the oldest koopa kid, Bully was. There are three major physical differences between Roy and Bully: Bully wears a collar, has a spike on his tail, and his eyes are seen. Bully also speaks with a New York accent while Roy has a much deeper voice. His name might be related to his typical response to Morton (Big Mouth) talking too much: whacking him on the head while yelling "SHUT UP!" In the Amada series, Roy serves as one of the minions of Bowser.
