Blue Valentine is the sixth studio album by singer and songwriter Tom Waits, released on September 5, 1978, on Asylum Records. It was recorded over the course of six sessions from July to August 1978 with producer Bones Howe. Rickie Lee Jones is pictured with Waits on the back cover.

Beautiful album that I normally listen to during winter season. I'd give it an 8/10. I think Blue Valentines and Christmas Card have two of Tom Waits most devastatingly powerful vocal performances.
Apr 26, 2022 · The opening track of 1978’s Blue Valentine, a cover of “Somewhere” from West Side Story, would be that thing I hate. It’s not that I don’t think Waits is capable of something so sweet and sentimental, but this track is way out of his style.

Mar 24, 2013 · For someone dead-set in their jazzy undertones, Blue Valentine seems like a welcome diversion from the norm for Tom Waits. The instrumentation takes on a far more punchy, electric, and bluesy vibe than his previous records that typically only gravitated to this sound on occasion.
