The beauty of Out of Africa, From the very opening shots, is rhapsodic and illustrative rather than dramatic. This large-scale adaptation of Isak Dinesen's marvelous memoir never catches fire.
And despite it's a very good movie I don't think it's the best movie from 1985. The movie is based on Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep)'s OUT OF AFRICA, her autobiographical book about her period in Africa (from 1913 to 1934).
