Back Fork is set in a small logging town in West Virginia which parallels perfectly to the real life opioid epidemic happening all across small town America. This film is a wake up call. Drug addiction is no longer something that only happens behind closed doors or hidden in dark alleyways.
The movie deals with loss, grief, the different ways we deal with grief, the ease with which a person can deceive themselves (and others) through the beginning stages of addiction, the impact that addiction has on the addict, those surrounding them, those who love them, and the lengths that an addict will go to in order to get what they have ...
Understated drama directed and starring Josh Stewart, who puts in a good turn as an addict in a downward spiral. There are similarities with films like Blue Valentine and Manchester by the Sea in the first act, with the second act raising questions of the current opiate problem in the US.
