I fixed this issue by uninstalling the Intel (R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel (R) SST) Audio Controller driver and the Intel (R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel (R) SST) OED driver at the same time [ use the delete option when uninstalling ], I restarted, and after a second the red x disappeared and my sound was back!!
Sep 5, 2023 · Intel Driver is stuck installing I saw that I had two driver updates available through the Intel Driver and Support app, so I clicked on it and downloaded the two driver updates. Then I clicked on install on only one of them (which was an accident really, but I didn't think it mattered), and now it's stuck on installing.

Dec 13, 2021 · This installer for the Intel Management Engine Components did not change the version of my Intel UHD Graphics 620 driver (currently v27.20.100.9664, which I installed on 11-Dec-2021) and the newer components bundled inside that installer - including Intel Management and Security Application Local Management component v2130.1.16.6 - don't seem to have caused any issues on my Win 10 Pro machine.
