WiFi Extender Setup Steps. Power Up: Plug in your NETGEAR extender. The Power LED should light up. If it doesn’t, press the Power or On/Off button. Connect: Use your computer or mobile device to connect to the extender’s WiFi network, named NETGEAR_EXT by default. The network may be open or use ‘password’ as the default password.
- Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your extender’s network. Note: Your router and extender might have different WiFi network names (SSIDs).
- If your extender and router use different WiFi network names (SSIDs), type www.mywifiext.net into the address field of your web browser.
- If your extender and router use the same WiFi network name (SSID), type http:// (for example, http://192.168.1.3) into your browser’s address field.
- Click or tap Enter. A login page displays.
Place your extender in the same room as your WiFi router. Proximity to the WiFi router is required only during the initial setup process. Plug the extender into an electrical outlet. Wait for the Power LED to light green. If the Power LED does not light, press the Power On/Off button on the side of the extender.
