  1. Feldkirch (German pronunciation: [ˈfɛltkɪʁç] ⓘ) is a town in the western Austrian state of Vorarlberg, bordering on Switzerland and Liechtenstein. It is the administrative centre of the Feldkirch district. After Dornbirn, it is the second most populous town in Vorarlberg.

    • Schattenburg Castle. This castle museum is one of the earliest mentioned records of Feldkirch and dates back to the 12th century. Originally a residence of the Earls of neighbouring Bregenz for over 200 years, the castle then changed ownership to the mighty Habsburg leaders who ruled over the estate until the late 1700’s.
    • Feldkirch Wildpark. This enchanting animal park is located just to the east of the river and in the grounds of the huge Erholungswald public park. Inside the park there are several areas including an adventure park for children complete with a play area and barbeque, and the wildlife park itself which has over 140 different animals such as the Capercaille, the shy Lynx, delightful mini-pigs, Ibexes and graceful Red Deer.

    • Schattenburg Castle. Built on a promontory overlooking the town, Schattenburg Castle was the seat of the Dukes of Montfort until the 14th century. It was built by Hugo I of Montfort when he decided to settle in what would become Feldkirch in the 13th century.
    • Dom St Nikolaus (St Nicholas Cathedral) Dom St Nikolaus is a cute little Roman Catholic cathedral. It’s not your usual grand European cathedral, but it’s a great example of a traditional gothic Austrian church, the largest of its kind in Vorarlberg.

    • Schattenburg castle. Nestled against the backdrop of the mountains, Feldkirch stands in the shadow of Schattenburg Castle. A city landmark the mighty fortress was constructed in the early 1200s and was the seat of the Earls of Montfort.
