Final Fantasy VIII is more than a story about saving the world from a great evil, or story about two lovers trying to make it out at the end, for me... It was a coming of age story, and the true victory wasn't just saving Balamb Garden, or protecting Rinoa and Ellone, or the defeat of Ultemecia, or saving all existence from Time Compression.

- Laguna Loire - S+ Tier. NOTE: Okay, I think it is very important to note that I've only played this amazing game once—and I really enjoyed the Laguna segments.
- Edea Kramer - S Tier. Edea was a very effective villain—especially with her phenomenal (albeit questionable) design. The four plot twists involving Edea were very interesting, if iffy in practice.
- Seifer Almasy - S Tier. I always feel sympathy for characters who are brainwashed into following the main antagonist without understanding what doing so entails.
- Rinoa Heartily - A Tier. I'll give it to Rinoa—she has my second favorite personality of any character in the game, just behind Irvine. Being a member of a resistance faction?
Laguna nails Raine. Ellone gets abducted by Esthar soldiers. Laguna leaves Winhill to save her. Raine finds out she's knocked up. Laguna rescues Ellone and sends her home. Raine dies during childbirth (or shortly after, it's never explained). Then Squall and Ellone are sent to the orphanage.
Each of the characters in FF8 are highly relatable as this is one of the first Final Fantasy games that lacks some of the more crazy, unrealistic characters seen in some of the other titles including Cait Sith, Red XIII and even characters like Vivi from Final Fantasy IX and Kimahri from Final Fantasy X.
