Jul 30, 2021 · Grays is the site of the biggest murder investigation known to the Essex police department. In the early 2000s, a truckload of 39 people was discovered here. It is believed that they were asylum seekers, smuggling themselves into the country.

With the coming of the railways the population took off and was 13,000 by 1901, with wharves and jetties, barge builders and breakers yards on the waterfront.
